Reading Recovery

Reading Recovery - Year 1

Reading Recovery is an integral part of the Literacy strategy. It is a school-based program designed to assist students in Year One who, after one year of schooling, have not developed effective reading and writing processes. It is based on a holistic approach to the acquisition of literacy that builds on students’ strengths, encouraging success and independence.

Students attend a daily half-hour session with one-to-one instruction from a trained Reading Recovery teacher.

The program continues until the individual student has developed effective strategies for independent learning and can participate in classroom literacy activities. Students are supported through on-going monitoring.
