News from the Principal

Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,

Thank you for the ongoing partnership with the school this term. As we start the two week holidays please enjoy time together as a family and enjoy the break from the busyness of after school activities. We look forward to welcoming you back on Monday July 15 at 9am for Term Three. A reminder that Term Two finishes on Friday 28th June at 1pm. There will be no school buses running on this day.

STUDENT SEMESTER ONE REPORTS

This Semester student reports will be released onto PAM on Wednesday. These reports have been prepared by your child’s classroom teacher and moderated against their peers to show their achievements assessed against the state-wide standards expected at this time of the year.  It divides the years of compulsory schooling into levels (Foundation to Year 6) and assesses your child’s level in relation to other children of similar age in Victoria. Not all curriculum areas will be assessed in this report as some areas of the Victorian curriculum are only assessed on a bi-annual basis.

The Semester One reports contain feedback regarding your child’s progress so far this year with a focus on the learning behaviours they are demonstrating in their classroom. This report reflects your child’s classroom teacher’s professional judgement, informed by data from testing and by classroom observations.  The Specialist teachers have included a description of the learning expectations this semester for their subject area.

Your child’s report is intended to promote discussion about how we can work together to benefit your child. They are a snapshot of each student’s learning at this time, based on evidence from a range of assessments. A goal for Maths and English have then been set as a focus for your child during Semester Two. Please contact your child’s teacher if you wish to discuss any of the information shared in the report.

The discussions and sharing by your child at the Student Led conference will also support the report and enable your child to have a voice in how they feel they are progressing. What they have shared with you will be examples of their learning and achievements they are proud about. It is an opportunity to celebrate their achievements with them and their classroom teacher. In particular, the learning behaviours that your child shares at this conference will reflect the learning behaviours they feel are very important.

In reading the report, please remember that learning is not just about literacy and numeracy – relationships and learning behaviours are very important indicators to future learning.

Celebrate your child’s effort and most importantly, don’t compare your child with others – especially siblings.
