Jn 6:1 -15
Last week's Gospel was about Jesus, the Good Shepherd who took care of the needs of his flock. This week Jesus is caring for the needs of the people who followed him to the hillside to listen to his stories. The Gospel tells us that as many as five thousand people were among the crowd. They were all tired and hungry, it was miles to the nearest town. Even if they were closer, Jesus and his disciples didn’t have enough money to buy food to feed that many people. They gathered together five loaves and two fish - certainly not enough to feed five thousand people. Jesus took the food that he had, thanked God, blessed the food and shared it with the crowd. There is no limit to God’s great love for us. We can trust that God will provide for us. It is our call to be God’s presence in the world by showing care and compassion for those around us.
