Education in Faith

Jn 6: 24 - 35

It is easy for us to spend our time focused on the immediate needs in life - such as providing food and shelter for our family. Now, more than ever, as we face the uncertainty of COVID-19 and lockdowns, our energy is given to the urgent and the important. It is easy to forget the promises that are given to us by God. God promised to provide the nourishment that will satisfy our needs, to fulfill our wants. In this Gospel, Jesus says

“I am the bread of life.

He who comes to me will never be hungry;

He who believes in me will never thirst.”

Jesus never promised that belief in God and reliance on God’s providence would free us from problems and discouragement. He did, however, assure us that God would always be present to strengthen and uphold us. By holding onto our faith in God we are strengthened in all that we do. Remember that Jesus is the “bread of life” and that we will find comfort in him.
