Education in Faith
This week's gospel is another of the parables that Jesus told, the Parable of the Prodigal Son. The story of the prodigal son is simultaneously challenging and encouraging. It is a story that speaks to every person in every era and is another good “checkpoint” for us as we prepare for Easter. We all know how good we feel when we say “sorry” and make up after a quarrel. Jesus told a story to show that when we forgive and are forgiven we are filled with great joy and a feeling of peace. In this story Jesus shows us that God’s love never lets go of us, God waits for us, forgives us and, just as the father in the parable did, runs to meet us when we decide to return to him. Take time to talk with your children about forgiveness and how giving and receiving it can change our lives.
