Education in Faith

Lk 11:1 - 13

The focus of the readings over the weekend was around prayer; asking for help and receiving it. Prayer is about the communication between people and God. Quite often we only pray when we want something, however, God wants us to talk daily about the many things in our lives. In this week's gospel Jesus taught us how to pray to God through The Lord’s Prayer, otherwise known as the Our Father. Through this prayer, Jesus taught his disciples to think of God as someone who was loving and protective - like a father to all people. This changed the whole idea of who God was from someone all powerful and mighty to someone who is a close friend. So when we pray we are talking to a friend and it is important for each of us to include prayer and reflection in our daily life. Prayer is taking time to let God know what truly matters to us, a conversation, a word of thanks ….
This is an important concept to bestow upon our children … that God is our friend and prayer is simply having a conversation and sharing what is on our hearts and minds.
